Biking among almond trees from Avellanes Monastery, Lerida

Too much activity, not enough time to write on it! I finally share with you the bike tour we did on March 18th.This time we decided to follow another red track (see last post for more info), starting at Avellanes Monastery, 15 km North of Balaguer. This Monastery is quite unusual, as some part is still used for the sisterhood but at the same time it is a hotel / restaurant and even a summer camp.

We followed the track Nr 5C which took us to Camarasa swamp that you can see below. The views are really different from the track we did the day before, this one is somehow easier, it is less impressive, but biking among almond trees in blossom is really pleasant.

Both tracks are really worth it, only if you have a good mountain bike and some experience! The way up from the swamp is really hard, because it is full of stones and it is quite hard to keep control of the bike. Moreover there is no shade during all the way up, so it is better to do it in the morning.

On the way you can see the ancient salt marsh of Vilanova de la Sal which are unused since 1989, but that you can visit. Back to the Monastery, you can visit it, or even enjoy a meal at its restaurant. We had a sandwich in front of it!
